The Heart & Soul of Team PowerHouse, Steve Nesbit
To look at Steve Nesbit, the chief creative force behind the PowerHouse Tattoo Studio, you wouldn't think that beneath his calm and friendly exterior lurked dark, macabre ideas, populated by strange denizens and landscapes that defy the laws of physics. But Steve takes it all in his stride. As an artistic youngster, he made friends with his imagination at an early age, and has been drawing for as long as he can remember. By the time I reached 17, Steve recalls, I'd made the choice that tattooing was the way to go. His first tattoo shop, Electric Ink, opened in Levin to moderate business before Steve decided to up sticks and move to Palmerston North. Based on the reaction to his tattooing style, a look described by many as big, bold and having a "PowerHouse" feel to it, Steve hit upon the idea of calling his new shop The PowerHouse Tattoo Studio.
Before long, Steve had established a name for himself with his artistic style. Creating an original look was important to him. Self taught, he has developed his own style and the attitude has paid off handsomely, as Steve, who won his first award in 1995, has gone on to win awards covering all categories and styles. His most recent win being the Best in Show at the Lower Hutt Tattoo competition, taking home both of the top prizes.
Steve is also an accomplished illustrator, having worked on numerous corporate projects over the years he enjoys the variety of mediums he has had the opportunity to work with.
Hygiene and Safety - "Recognised as one of Australasia's best tattoo Studio's"
More important than the awards, though, is Steve's commitment to professionalism and hygiene. He takes care in offering the very best options and body art advice to all clients and prides himself on working in an ultra-hygienic environment. Single use/ disposable needles guaranteed. Clients, too, are impressed by the relaxed surroundings. It is by keeping such concerns in mind that Steve has enjoyed working in the tattooing industry for over 20 years. As he fondly remarks, It's great to be doing something I'm passionate about, and I probably couldn't ask for more than that.
